Villa d'Este, a former 16th century princely residence, surrounded by a 25 acres park, is more than just a hotel. The luxury and magnificence of a bygone era is maintained intact. We simply added all the up-to-date facilities. Upon emerging from the revolving doors you feel the cares of the modern world slip away and the warm greetings of the staff make you feel at home.

Villa d'Este totals 158 rooms.
The main house built in 1568 and known as the Cardinal's building counts 127 rooms while the trompe l'oeil masterpiece known as the Queen's Pavilion, inaugurated in 1860 has 31 rooms. In 1873 the two Villas combined into one property became Villa d'Este. Every air conditioned room is different both in size and décor. Period furniture. Oil paintings. Como silk covers sofas and chairs. Drapes are silk brocade. Linen sheets. Walk-in closets Some rooms have balconies or terraces.

 

Double rooms (83)
Located in both buildings with panoramic views of the gardens and the park. All rooms have been completely renovated and there are no two alike. Dogs allowed in the guest rooms.

 

 

 

 

Junior suites (56)
Located in both buildings. Very large rooms, bedroom and sitting area with views of lake, the gardens and the Mosaic, a much photographed national monument.

Suites (14)
Two separate rooms, one for sleeping and the other a full-sized living room. In the main building the majority overlook the lake terrace with a view of the opposite shore. In the Queen's Pavilion the view includes the pools and looks toward the town of Como.

The Hotel_Dining
Dining at Villa d'Este becomes "A Moveable Feast." Dining services throughout the day and the evening just about anywhere on the premises.

The Veranda
Overlooks the Lake and the gardens. It is formal and elegant (jacket and ties required in the evening). Glassed-in, windows electrically controlled disappear into the ground. In the Summer tables are also set up on the terrace. The menu is traditional Italian haute cuisine. Excellent wine list. Breakfast: 7:00 am to 10:30 am. Lunch: 12:15 pm to 2:15 pm. Dinner: 7:30 pm to 9:45 pm
 

 


 

The Grill
Is informal but the ambience is cozy and chic. The menu lists an interesting variety of regional dishes with a choice of the best Italian wines. In the Summer, meals are served in the garden under the century-old plane trees. From 7:30 pm to midnight. Closed on Monday

Kisho
The Japanese restaurant featuring sushi, sashimi, tempura and other Japanese specialties is located in the gardens above the Grill. A great romantic venue. From its terrace one can watch the moon come up over the lake. From 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Closed on Tuesday.

Sundeck
Overlooking the sundeck and the floating swimming pool, the bar is open from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Light lunches and snacks, salads, sandwiches and a pasta dish of the day.

Bar Canova
Open all day. Drinks and light snacks available. Pianist from 7:30 pm to 8:45 pm and again from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm.

Terrace Bar
On the lake front. Drinks and snacks served under the chestnut trees in the midst of the jasmine scent.

d'Este club
Disco and Night Club
Open on Friday and Saturday from 10:00 pm to 1:00 am. During the summer months, weather permitting, the band will play on the lake front terrace under the stars. Jacket is required.

History
In 1568 Tolomeo Gallio Cardinal of Como built a Villa named Garrovo as his private residence. It was owned in succession by a ballerina and a Napoleonic General, a Queen without a crown who renamed it Villa d'Este, a Russian Empress and minor aristocracy. In 1873 it was transformed into a Hotel.

Art
The guestrooms, the corridors, the Hall and the public rooms are decorated with antique furnishing and art works which give the hotel a palatial atmosphere.
On the ground floor visit the Colonne Room with its biblical paintings. In the Flora Room the statue of Eros and Psyche from the School of Antonio Canova and the 16th century Adam and Eve Carrara marble statues by Marco Antonio Prestinari in the Canova Bar. The Napoleone Room named after the Emperor who planned to visit but never showed up

 

Garden
The design of the lower part of the gardens is from the Renaissance period. The two most outstanding landmarks are the 500 year old plane tree and the 16th century Mosaic with its Nympheum. Apart from the topiary hedges and the bushes of bamboo, azaleas, camellias, oleanders, rhododendrons, hydrangeas, there are roses and jasmine bushes. The trees range from chestnut , magnolia, oleafragrans, wisteria, palm, cypress, pine, ilex, privet, mediar to many others.

The Hotel Sports
While staying at the Hotel guests can enjoy outdoor and indoor activities. The Sporting Club is directly connected to the Cardinal Villa through an underground corridor and includes : Indoor pool, Gym room, Sauna, Turkish baths, Squash, Golf simulator.

Golf Club Villa d'Este
A beautiful 18-hole park land course designed by Peter Gannon which winds its way through chestnut, ash and pine trees sheltering golfers even from the intense August heat. Villa d'Este is considered one of the most challenging and difficult par 69's in Europe, even though it is the site of several amateur competitions each year. The club house overlooks several holes and a spacious view of the Montorfano lake.

How to reach Villa d'Este

By Plane
Milan Linate - National Flights and Charters
Follow direction to Como - Chiasso (highway A9) untill you reach the exit Como Nord (the last exit before the Swiss border). Approximately 72 Km and 50 minutes time.

Milan Malpensa - International Flights
Follow the direction to Milan (highway A8).
Take then the highway A9 (direction Como-Chiasso) untill you reach the exit Como Nord (the last exit before the Swiss border). Approximately 67 Km and 45 minutes time.

Lugano Agno - International and Swiss National Flights
Follow the direction of Lugano, then Lugano-Milan highway.
200 meters after the border and custom Switzerland-Italy, exit on your left at "Cernobbio/Lago". Then drive toward the lake and through Cernobbio till you find the Villa d'Este entrance on your right. Distance Km. 37 and about 25 minutes time.

By Train
Como San Giovanni is a major Railway station along the North to South Europe Railway lines.  Every hour there is a connection with Milan Railway Station.

By Private Car
Highway A9 (Milan - Switzerland): Exit Como Nord then follow the direction to Cernobbio, cross the village; Villa d'Este gate is on the right side.

By Proviate Helicopter
Villa d'Este owns a private helipad for those who prefer private helicopter transfer.
